Pretty good smoker : Outdoor Leisure 30168E Smoke Hollow Electric Smoker

My first experience with this smoker (or any smoker for that matter) was good. A few negative things to mention. . . . even on level ground (yes, I used a level to verify) the drippings from the meat do not really drain into the drip pan. They kept running out of the smoker and onto the front two legs. They should have sloped the bottom part of the smoker much better to prevent this. I'm not really happy with the handle, it's held on by a single nut on the inside of the smoker which loosens easily and needs to be tightened often. When assembling be careful not to tighten the bolt/nuts on the smoke release vent too much. You'll want it just snug enough to hold in place. I was tightening (as stated in the directions) and before I knew it I had bent the back interior part of the smoker just around the smoke release vent (I did bend it back into place). Two of the three cooking racks are slide out removable (which is very handy). The non-slide out rack is held in place by 4 screws which make it a hassle to remove if you need to clean it. The bottom rack is held in with 4 screws and holds the water pan and the wood chip pan. . . . it would be nice if it were easier to remove so that you can easily access the interior two nuts that hold the heat element in the smoker. The heat element needs to be removed when spraying the interior with Pam, as the directions state not to coat the heat source with vegetable oil spray. A few positive things. . . . I smoked two pork shoulders over the weekend and they were delicious. I felt like the temperature control was pretty stable throughout the entire smoke. When I opened the smoker to check water, wood chips, and meat temp it lost most of its heat of course but then seemed to easily come back up to desired temp within just a matter of minutes. I would consider my negative comments minor inconveniences and would certainly recommend this smoker. Keep in mind though that this is my first time smoking and don't have anything to compare it to. I really look forward to using it again.

this cover doen almost nothing for what you want it to do. It claims to "stop the rain" that is a joke. 24 hours after i recieved this product it rained i went out the next day to check the smoker, of course if was covered in water. all you really want is something to stop the rain and this does not even come close to it. i will be returning mine tomorrow and would not reccomend this product to my worst enemy.

Good Entry Level Smoker : Brinkmann 810-7080-8 Gourmet Electric Smoker and Grill with Vinyl Cover, Red

I have owned a Brinkman smoker for 14 years...not this one, but the more simple model that costs about $85.00. I have smoked several turkeys, many chickens, salmon, pork roasts....ALL with great success. TWO things I can think of might help with your low temperature problem:

1. Did you use an extension cord with it? I once had the same problem you had when I used a long extension cord. Troubleshooting, I searched the manual that came with it and found that it says not to use long extension cords (you'll have to search your manual for the maximum optimum length). PLEASE don't give up on your smoker! I get much more tender, juicy results than I do with my flambeed grilled meats!! ha ha! The smoker is easy to use, no fuss and not too bad of a mess to clean if you line your water pan with heavy duty foil! I use Easy-Off oven cleaner on my two racks and water pan and be sure to rinse them very well. I can leave for four hours and my food will be ready when I return (just be sure your water pan always has liquid in it) When we have company, they LOVE the smoked flavor. Hope this helps. Once I eliminated the long extension cord, all was well.
2. Were you peeking at your turkey or basting it? My lid also has a small gap through which the smoke escapes, but it doesn't affect it. You cannot constantly open the lid to peek or baste as this allows the heat to escape and it will take a while for the smoker to reach the proper temperature again. NO NEED to baste with a smoker! The meat is always juicy.

I found your review because after 14 years, I'm seeing rust on my smoker, which was one of the best of our wedding gifts. I never owned a cover for it but always stored it in the garage when not in use. This last year, however, it spent much time neglected outside (I have four children now) and I wanted to research smokers to find the replacement for our trusty old one!

I would highly recommend a Brinkman electric smoker to anyone who is considering purchasing one (sorry, I've never tried another brand). It's so much easier than grilling because you never need to watch over your food to prevent charring. I guess you could say a smoker is to a grill as a crockpot is to an oven, except that unlike crockpot food, the meat will appear beautifully golden-browned with NO blackness.

Top Quality Smoker for the price!! : Smokin-It Model #1 Electric Smoker

After MUCH research, bought this. Like others, did not want to fuss with non-electric heat sources. Shipped promptly, easy to place on wheels, seasoned per instructions.
Overall great. I love the set it and forget it work load. Comments: don't forget to cover bottom of unit and top of smoker box with aluminum foil - huge ease of clean up. I bought disposable aluminum pans - only slightly smaller than the shelf. (It has two shelves.) Place water in pan (for moisture and clean up ease), place meat on shelf above water, turn on. It is great. No clean up. Great results. ( I have actually been cleaning the pan and re-using it.) The only meat I have to "adjust" is ribs - 3 hours in smoker, then remove, cover with foil and continue for about two more hours. Otherwise, too dry. Amazon has good prices on weber wood chunks. I use apple and hickory.

I love this smoker : Meco 5030 Electric Grill and Combination Water Smoker

I had never smoked before making this purchase. My primary goal was to smoke fish and thus far, I have used it 3 times to make both smoked salmon and talapia. The smoker was relatively easy to assemble (took about an hour.) The instructions are adequate, but not much as far as recipies go. I went to the internet (salmonuniversity.com was a great resource, with step-by-step instructions on how to brine, prepare, smoke, and store the fish.) I can smoke about 6 pounds of salmon in about 2.5 - 3 hours. The result is fantastic and comparable to smoked fish I've had in restaurants. My family, friends, and neighbors love it too. Cleanup of the smoker takes about 10 minutes, which isn't too bad. The construction of the smoker is pretty sturdy and I have not noticed any paint peeling as had been described with the Char-Broil smoker. I haven't tried ribs yet, but that's next on my list. I would definitely buy this smoker again.

The smoker was delivered as promised. It took around an hour to assemble it while I was having my morning coffee. If you are in a hurry, just buy your meats from the market already smoked.

So far I have smoked beef tri-tip with apple wood, and king salmon with cherry wood. Both turned out fantastic.

Beef takes a few hours and the fish takes around one hour; of course it depends on size and temperature, etc. It is nice that I only need to add wood chips and turn the electric thermostat on without the need for charcoal.
